Mac to PC issue

Hi - I just got a new PC, Windows 10, and want to transfer my files from my Mac to my PC. I’ve got them on my Passport and can unlock my Passport on my PC, but can’t view any files. Not sure how to do this… any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello,

Windows is unable to read a drive that has been formatted for Mac. this is not supported by Windows.

I recommend you format the drive to FAT32 so you can transfer the files, this file system can be read by both Windows and Mac but has a file size limitation of 4GB.

It seems to me that if you reformat the Passport drive from a Mac format to a FAT32 format you would lose all data on the Passport – not what I think you want to do.

If all the files you want from Mac are on the Passport drive, your best bet is to put a program on your PC that enables it to read Mac files. Then copy the files over.

If you have a Windows home network, you should be able to have the Mac (and Passport attached to it) connected to the network, and the PC connected to network, and by using the Windows File Explorer see the Mac w/passport on network and then copy the files from the Mac and Passport to the PC.

I do not have a Mac, but I have multiple PCs and can copy to and from them all via the home network.

Since I do not know how computer savvy you are, I also will suggest you speak with a computer repair facility nearby and tell them what you want to do and they can likely do it for you for a reasonable cost. You will not be a happy camper if you goof this transfer up.
