Latest windows update produces warning error - wdcsam64.sys

I just updated windows, I have an external WD passport 5tb drive. I’m getting an error about memory or something being caused by wdcsam64.sys

How do i fix this?

To fix the wdcsam64.sys error:

  1. Update the WD driver in Device Manager.
  2. Uninstall and reconnect the drive to reinstall the driver.
  3. Check for Windows updates.
  4. Run chkdsk: chkdsk /f X: (replace X with your drive letter).
  5. Disable fast startup in power options. If it doesn’t work, check the WD website for specific drivers.

But where do I get the updated wdcsam64.sys? Device Manager says that the latest is already installed…and it’s not good enough.

To fix the wdcsam64.sys error, visit the WD Support website and download the latest driver for your WD Passport 5TB. You can also reinstall WD Discovery or WD Drive Utilities to get the updated driver. If that doesn’t work, try installing the driver in compatibility mode or contact WD support for help.
