Jellyfin and/or Emby

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there’s any consideration being given to adding Jellyfin or Emby as potential alternatives to Plex?

With the recent changes Plex has announced regarding free remote streaming (and the subsequent community discussion, see Reddit - The heart of the internet and Reddit - The heart of the internet), it seems like a good time to explore other options. Jellyfin and Emby both offer similar features and are open-source/have different licensing models, which might appeal to some users.

Just curious to hear if this is something that could be on the radar or if there’s any possibility of this being explored in the future. Thanks!

Western Digital has not added any new media features to the MCH in 7 years. What is the probability that it should do so in the waning years of life of the MCH which is around ~2 remaining years?

If anything, you should see more features deprecated, which may include Plex support that has always been minimal in the first place.

In the last few days, Google Photos support has been deprecated and will become unsupported by the end of March, 2025.
