I’m reading a lot about people losing several years worth of data on their WD MyBooks and Duos. Some kind of malicious attack that has wiped them all. I have a WD MyCloud and after reading all this i decided to unplug it from the network until I can get an official answer.
I have searched quite a bit for an answer but haven’t seen anything posted about whether or not the MyCloud line is affected by this malicious attack or in the very least at risk of it.
My device is unplugged from yesterday morning to avoid any risk. I’m waiting an official response. In the official post My Cloud Home is not mentioned.
“…We have heard customer concerns that the current My Cloud OS 5 and My Cloud Home series of devices may be affected. These devices use a newer security architecture and are not affected by the vulnerabilities used in this attack…”
There is no option for us to allow only Local access of our data on My Cloud Home.
Same thing happened few years ago where many researchers asked WD to release patches for a new security vulnerability called: CVE-2018-17153 but WD never released them.
So security researchers had to publicly disclose the vulnerability because after repeated intimations WD was not listening to them.
Now, many believe that the current blunder is solely due to WD and their goddamn laziness in providing timely updates and their foolish programmers
