i think i downloaded the correct file for windows 7 x86 but i keep getting a message saying :application not launched from drive", i cant get onto my drive because its locked and my stupid girlfriend threw out the original disc, so now im sitting on a hard drive that has files that i need but cant get to cause the drive is locked because i cant unlock it without the program. (the reason i dont have the program is because i got a new comp, and like i said, i have no disc)
by the way, its for a my book essential 1110, if you need the P/N i can supply it

Smartware comes preloaded on the drive.
If an older drive, you will have a virtual CD partition showing on computer named WD Smartware.
If on the other hand you have a newer drive it should show as unlocker.
The only way this will not show is if the drives VCD has been disabled while the password protection is still enabled.
Try posting the message you are getting when you try to access the drive.
Does the drive shows in computer but you get a message when you double click?
the drive does not show up at all in "my computer’…it does however show up under devices but i can only see the specs and settings of the device from there. i do not see any wd smartware launch icon or hd icon.

besides purchasing a new computer, i now have windows 7 professional, i used to have home premium. before i reformatted my old computer, i backed up all my files to the external harddrive. i plugged the external harddrive into the new computer (while it was off) then i turned it on, from there the computer did install the drivers and that was it.
how do i enable/disable the VCD?
another message i do get, which makes no sense, is "WD Smartware can not be installed on windows xp/vista 64…im running windows 7 pro x86. this comes up when i try to use windows installer
Fixed it myself. I figured that for most hardware u can reupdate the firmware or software to fix problems so thats exactly what i did. I reupdated the firmware and software now i have the wd smartware icon back to unlock my drive and its functioning properly. Got my files, done.
