I was prompted to ERASE and now Mac doesn't recognize MyPassport

When setting up Time Machine on my Mac laptop I was prompted to select the drive. I selected MyPassport, a new unused 1T WD drive and I was prompted to erase. I did. But now my Mac can’t recognize the drive. Is there a way to restore so it could be read by the laptop? There w nothing on the drive, yet. Thanks!
