How to format a My Passport Ultra for macOS Sierra?

I see that instructions for formatting a drive for various macOS are available here,

Western Digital Support | Western Digital

but that Sierra is not listed. What do I need to know to be able to plug in my new My Passport Ultra and get started with it, please?

Yup, I followed the instructions for the most recent mac iOS on the website and it worked for mine with Sierra. Actually it was simpler than I thought it would be, although I didn’t quite understand what I was doing as I did it!
