Have Raw_Read_Error_Rate erros, what to do?

Hi guys,

I have been happily using mycloud 2 TB for over a year. Recently I noticed random slowdowns and the drive disappearing from the network. I ran the below command to check it and this is what I get.

smartctl -a /dev/sda

What are my options at this point? Can I format or rest the drive somehow? If not, I am even considering replacing the hard drive myself as it is out of warranty. I have another external WD 1TB hard drive (it has its own power as well, looks similar to mycloud). I wonder if I can put this 1TB disk into mycloud following @Fox_exe guides.

Any help would be appreciated.

Raw error rate - is software errors, not hardware (HDD is OK).
Upgrade firmware to latest and do factory reset (Full). Maybe its help.
Also you can try my fw alternatives. If not helps - RMA. (Go to service center)

Oh, really? I thought the HDD went bad. In fact, I contacted WD support and they told me it is bad and not fixable :slightly_smiling:

Thanks, Fox_exe, let me try to upgrade to the latest FW!

Oh, i lie - Raw error rate - is internal error corrections (Hardware errors), but its no mean HDD problems. Hight values - is normal.
Really important values is “Pendig sectors count” and “Reallocated sectors count” (More than zero - bad).

OK, my Current_Pending_Sector is 200 and it is not increasing since I have been monitoring it. Reallocated_Sector_Ct is 0. BTW, I was on a v4 FW from about a year ago and recently switched to sq-030401-230-20140415 fw. I think problems started ever since I downgraded…?

So, what is your advice:

try to do full reset on my v3 fw

OR

upgrade to latest fw 04.04.02-105 (1/27/2016)

OR

upgrade to latest fw 04.04.02-105 (1/27/2016) and do full reset

Just for be shure - upgrade to latest firmware, do factory reset (Because upgrade sometime get many bugs/errors/unstable_fw/etc.)

OK, I have updated to the latest FW and did a full reset of the device. It took 7 hours. So, here is what I get… still get Raw_Read_Error_Rate, but Current_Pending_Sector = 0 and Reallocated_Sector_Ct = 0
