Been trying to sign in to my Google account on WD Discovery, but met with Google Authorisation Error, Error 401: disabled_client. Description as follows:" Sign in with Google temporarily disabled for this app. This app has not been verified yet by Google in order to use Google Sign In."
I have the exact same problem. I don’t get to that step in the WD discovery setup about allowing permissions. I’m not going to create a new google account to import my original google account. It sounds like that link that Neha posted is as if you never had a gmail account before. That just sounds wrong.
Western Digital farms out their sync software. I used GoodSync for WD.
They offer a free version specifically for Western Digital syncs. However, you have to do manual backups, it’s not automated unless you pay the yearly subscription of about $30 bucks…
I also downloaded the WD MyCloud app so once I did the initial backup, any future pictures I took would automatically get backed up without needing manual syncs.
I downloaded the GoodSync for WD and installed it on my PC. I also installed the GoodSync for WD software directly onto my MyCloud PR4100. From what I’ve experienced, if you don’t have their software on your WD Cloud, you’ll get more “failed to backup” errors on the backup attempts.
If you get any errors about the GoodSync not finding your WD Cloud, you have to navigate to the folder on your PC and just type in the password that you would use to log directly into your WD Cloud. Then that error goes away.
Ultimately, I was able to get almost all of my pictures backed up onto my PR4100. I did get 88 failed to backup messages but I was able to successfully save over 2000 pictures/images/videos to my PR4100.
Until Western Digital has a better system or they do significant updates to WD Discovery, this is what worked for me. I hope this helps some of you.
Google has been blocking more sign in attempts and starting in 2022 it will only get more restrictive - in short, Google doesn’t trust your identity and wants to know more about you. Your choices are either to use less of their services or let Google know more about your identity.
Less secure apps & your Google Account
To help keep your account secure, starting May 30, 2022 , Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password.
Please note this deadline does not apply to Google Workspace or Google Cloud Identity customers. The enforcement date for these customers will be announced on the Workspace blog at a later date.
For more information, please continue reading.
Special Note on Apple Device Sign-Ins. Users who have not recently signed into their Google Account using only username and password will be able to only make new sign in attempts using the Google account type starting from February 28, 2022 . Existing users may continue to sign into their Google Account using their username and password until May 30, 2022 .
If an app or site doesn’t meet our security standards, Google might block anyone who’s trying to sign in to your account from it. Less secure apps can make it easier for hackers to get in to your account, so blocking sign-ins from these apps helps keep your account safe.
A first post reviving a 3 year old thread about a deprecated software called WD Discovery for the My Cloud Home is usually an indication of a spam bot.
