I noticed my drives in the NAS run between 45 and 48 degrees Celsius, i’m not quite comfy with those values… I know the NAS has a fan… But it seems to be not spinning till a certain heat of the HDD’s. But i wanna lower the threshold of where it kicks in… Because these temps are a tad high for me, the extra noise i dont mind… Its somewhere where it wont bother me…
I’ve tried editing the export of the systems file, but i cant get it to represent anything… its just gibberish no matter what i use to open it (even visual studio 2012).
Is there a way to remap it , so the fan kicks in at like 45C ?
I had the same problem with my My Cloud Mirror, and i mount a 92mm fan on top of the Mirror. I´m using a 9V power adaptor for the 12V fan an that drops the temperture from 43-45°C to 28-30°C.
Of course the perfect way were to remap the config, but i don´t know how. So the external fan works fine for me.
This is another of the issues that WD has refused to address, even though there have been countless requests since the release of this NAS to provide fan control. So, I too plopped a USB powered fan atop the NAS. You can find fans meant for home theater use, that spin at a lower speed, make very little noise, but still move plenty of air to keep the drives running much cooler. I just leave my fan running 24x7, and blow the dust out of it every few months.
