DWA-160 rev A2 Ver 1.40 not working - WD Live Plus

Is there going to be a new firmware update soon to support all the DWA-160 rev A / A2 ( atheros chipest ), or should I just look to buy another usb card?

Nobody from product support is probably going to see this thread.  I would recommend putting this in the Ideas Lab as a product idea or feature.

@Bill_S

That’s exactly why I already picked up the phone and bitched to WD!  It’s on the official supported list and it doesn’t works.

I guess I should be bitching at you for putting it on the list!

Sometimes wireless dongle manufacturers switch the chipset in their dongles without changing the model name or revision. I’m passing this along to another test engineer to see if this is the case.

Haha…touché.

I didnt get the DWA-160 to work either… the store were I bought refused to accept the return of it due to the fact that i had opened up the box…

What are the chances that the WD Live will be compatible with the DWA-160 within the near future?

Just so that the money i spent for the DWA-160 goes down the drain…

Where did you buy it?  Other people looking here need to know to avoid that retailer.

I did buy it in Sweden - placed called Webhallen - I wouldnt recommend it to anyone!!

I am getting real pissed as well.  This is now my second wireless adapter I purchased and none work yet both are on the supported list.   Since the manufactures dont change the part number when they change the hardware WD should not list it as a supported model and WD should sell working devices at a decent price.

Or be smart enough to have the WD Player use a given driver.  Now I have two wireless adapters which are useless to me.

NEITHER of those devices is on the supported list.

D-Link DWA-160 is on the list and it does not show any revision information.  I have now bought 2 cards and both do not work.  When I call a store and buy a part they dont have revision information.  WD needs to do a better job of adding support or sell working wireless cards directly that have the proper revision.

You’re misunderstanding the chart.

The chart says that the DWA-160 that was tested did NOT list a revision number.  Yours was listed as Version A2.

The chart says that the F6D4050 that was tested was listed as Version 1000.  Yours was listed as Version 2.

So, yours do NOT match the chart.

The problem is you CAN NOT order a part and request a revision.  When it says DWA-160 supported and no revision listed you go and order a DWA-160 and get a DWA-160 with a revision A2.

The list should say… WILL NOT WORK WITH REV XX, XX ETC. so when someone orders a part they know there are different revisions of it.  Or make the thing smart enough that you can load a driver for your device.

I have now spend over $150 trying to get a wireless card that works.

The number of devices / revisions that don’t work with the WDTV Live/+ far exceeds the number that work.

It’s simply more practical to list the devices that work, along with the revision number tested.

I totally understand your frustration at having bought “listed” devices but the reason WD specifies revision numbers is to show that they ONLY tested that revision; they make no promises about revisions they were unable to test.

To increase the chance of getting a device with the correct revision number, select a model from the list that was recently released (Amazon states the release dates in the product description).

Good luck!

Hey was there any luck in getting this wireless device to work?  I am having the exact same probelm.  Before I go through the heck of driving al the way back to the store (about 20 miles away) I wanted to know if there was an update you got that made this work or did you get a differnt usb wireless adapter?

Please advise.  I’m going nuts here!
