My passport just stopped working. Until now its been fine with no problems. Its been working fine on my notebook with windows 7 for about a year now. I downloaded some pics, ejected the drive and went to charge my notebook. I came back and plugged the hd in and it sounds like its stuck, trys for bout 30 sec and then the light starts flashing. What in the world? It never moved once I unplugged it, so what could cause this? I’ve been reading here and ordered a dual cable, but not sure if i wasted 5 bucks or not. Any ideas on what caused this and if there is anything to try?
Mmm just be sure to connect the USB cable directly to the computer, sometimes if you use a longer cable or a USB hub, it can corrupt the files. Check the disk management to see if you can find the passport there.
I pretty sure its getting some power, the light comes on and I can hear it clicking as if its stuck and then the light just starts blinking. I’ve tried a couple of different cables, same results. Its not showing up dm at all. One of the cables I tried was from another ext hd from wd. not sure how much the usb is putting out, hoping that the dual cable may break it loose, but I’m not holding my breathe on that.
