I’ve been using the WD My Cloud Home with my iPhone (not X, but similar experience), and yes, it does auto-upload photos and videos using the WD app.
That said, the app isn’t perfect. Sometimes the upload gets stuck or needs the app to stay open. It works, but not as smoothly as iCloud.
If remote access and reliable syncing are super important for you, just be ready for a bit of a learning curve. Hope that helps!
