DLNA file type associations

I loaded video files to the Public Videos folder and when I tried to view them on my TV only some were visible. I went in the My Cloud dashboard and refreshed the DLNA database. While I was there I noticed that many of the videos had been loaded as music. All of the video files are the same type and file extension. Is there a way to move the DLNA file associations from music to video?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I’m guessing they are .MP4 files?
If so, I suggest changing them to .M4V extension.

MP4 is ambiguous extension because it can be either audio or video.
M4V can only be video.

First if you haven’t done so already, read the unofficial Twonky FAQ:

Certain files, like MP4 are container files and can be encoded in such a way that Twonky will not properly read them and will classify them as audio. The workaround is to reencode the media file into a Twonky supported format using programs like the free Handbrake (https://handbrake.fr/).

In other cases incorrect metadata for the media (MP3/MP4 for example) can cause problems. One can use metadata editors like the free MediaMonkey (http://www.mediamonkey.com/) or the free MP3Tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/) to edit/modify/remove metadata tags on certain media files.

Thanks for your help. Looking at the file extensions they are .m4v which lists a type of MP4 so that is the problem.

Thanks again

M4V should only be video. So if Twonky is classifying them as Audio, then as Bennor indicates, there may be something wrong with the metadata.

That makes sense. Some files are classified as video and some as audio but as far as I could tell from the file extensions they are all the same. I will start looking at the metadata for differences.

Thanks again.
