Sorry. I probably should have posted this in the “1.03.49_V” thread but hopefully by highlighting the issue as a separate thread, WD will give this a higher priority.
I did the automatic update to firmware 1.03.49_V and it seems to be a good upgrade.
I know that this is naive but I am extremely disappointed that the update didn’t fix the music “play by artist or genre” issue. None of the beta notes indicated that this would be included but I was still naively hopeful that it would be included in the final update.
Currently, when you attempt to play music either “by artist or genre”, you ultimately must drill down to one album and play songs from only that album. This is really stupid since it effectively disables the “play by artist or genre” function because it behaves exactly the same as “play and album”.
In my opinion, this makes the WDTV Live useless as a music media center.
Again being naive, this should be easily fixed. If you play music from a network share, you are able to play all music in a genre or by an artist. Simply porting this code to music played on “local media” would solve this issue.
WD - Please issue a new firmare fix called 1.03.49_Va which fixes only this issue!
