Disappointed

My 6 year old WD MyCloud started having problems a few weeks ago, continually crashing on large file transfers.
So I purchased the newer model, the Mycloud Home. Newer it may be, but the device is a huge step backward in user friendliness and functionality.
Firstly, no DLNA which was built in to the WD Mycloud. Did not realise this until I actually unpacked it. So I cannot access it using the Samsung Link built into my Smart TV. Please do not suggest using PLEX and casting from my smartphone to the set, it just does not work. And it’s horribly cumbersome. With the WD I could navigate the WD Mycloud using my TV remote and select the video or music I wanted to play.
Secondly the rear USB functionality has been downgraded. On the WD Mycloud, a device plugged into it shows as another folder on both Windows and my smartphone. This means I can select and copy just the files to exactly the folder I want. On the Home device, all you can do is blanket transfer with no control over where the file is going. Please explain to me the thinking behind the design of that function. I just don’t get it.

To say I’m disappointed is to put it mildly, I just wish I had not bought this hateful device.
It’s fast. much faster than the WD Mycloud but there the usefulness ends. As a user friendly unit it’s a complete waste of space. I read the questions being asked on here and most of them are asking how to do things with the unit that I could do easily with the previous model.

We need new firmware for this device that replaces the functionality that came with the WD Mycloud.
9 out of 10 for speed
1 out of 10 user friendliness

I agree with you. This device is totally misrepresented as to what it is suppose to be and do. I had a goflex home for 9 years no problems until the day it simply died. I went with this before I read through all these community messages, if I had done so 1st I would never have purchased this. I tried calling tech support a few times for VERY basic things after repeately telling them I can understand them or what they were saying didnt not make any sense ( no sense in english, not technical). they finally said I needed to return it and get the “non Home” version - for what should be very basic features ( as simple as setting a static IP?) and oh they dont sell the non home, version supposedly due to Corona virus so I’m stuck with home unless I want to pay an additional $200+ MORE to get someting else. I have other questions posted here for days sitting unanswered… This supposed “NAS” device is a toy, its not even close to a real nas device and functionality is ■■■■.
