Determine Hours of Operation

Hi All:

I have a 4TB WD hard drive. This is a drive that I certified but am uncertain if I have ever used this drive. Is there a way to determine the number of hours of operation on this drive? I am working in a MacOS environment.

Thank you in advance.

Don

Any tool that can read the SMART data off the drive can tell you the Power On Count and Power On Hours.

If the MAC disk utility doesn’t do it (don’t know, don’t a MAC), you can get the MACos version of the WD Drive utility here:

Hi Saudade: Thank you for writing. The MacOS disk utility does not read SMART data. Looks like the application that I need is WD Dashboard that reads SMART data. Unfortunately, this application is only available for Windows. I’ll see if can hook this drive up to a Windows device. Don

I meant the Drive Utility not dashboard. It has a MAC version.

I know nothing about this tool. Hopefully the free version can do what you want.

Hi Saudade:

I downloaded and installed WD Utilities for MacOS. It was not the application that I was looking for. WD Utilities is for packaged hard drives. Not bare drives (in my instance Red Plua) that are connected via a USB drive docking station. While this application was not for my used case, I did come find an application called DriveDX. This did work.

Thank you again for your help.

OSX is a tad awkward for handling disks and for this reason most disks have drive managed error handling etc
