DC power supply specification

Hello, I am new here. I have an old WD external harddisk with personal data and old memories (photos). It is WDBAAU7500EBK. Vintage. I am unable to locate its power adapter. Anyone tell me what DC voltage and also polarity. I do have universal DC adapter so I can make this work. Thanks…

I couldn’t find much about this model, and the closest appears to a WD Elements SE portable. If so, and it’s about the size of a wallet, you should be able to power it up with just the USB cable. Use the original USB cable if possible, or a short, heavy one which helps prevent any possible power loss.

If the drive is much larger, then it likely needs the power adapter. Try looking for a label, either under or on the side of the case, which should provide the details that you’re looking for. If not, it likely takes a 12 volt power supply rated at 1.5 amps with positive being the center pin, which is what my 2011 My Books and 2009 DVR Expander all came with.

It’s a 750GB WD Elements Desktop

(Model Number: WDBAAU7500EBK on Page 2 of the PDF Below)

And it uses a 12 Volt / 1.5 Amps / 18 Watts AC Power Supply

You need a AC Adapter (Alternating Current) … a DC Adapter (Direct Current) will most likely Fry It.

12 Volts / 1.5 Amps / 18 Watts AC Power Supply

If you can’t find an Adaptor to buy … then the last thing you can do is remove it from the Enclosure and plug the Hard Drive into a 3rd Party USB Dock/Enclosure to access the the data.

I have done this myself … mainly because the WD Elements Desktop is only USB2.0 which is so SLOW , so i put my WD Elements Desktop Hard Drive into a USB3.0 Enclosure to copy data to it much quicker.

It’s easy to do, because the Hard Drive uses a standard SATA Interface and has no encryption … and will just work.
