Copy old drive to new drive

I have an old WD external portable hard drive that I used to backup my computer, which I will no longer be using. I purchased a new WD external drive that I will use to back up a new laptop. I would like to copy the old hard drive as is to the new hard drive. Is this simply a copy D:/WD Backup.swstor To E:/?

Then is it possible to backup the laptop to the new drive without creating separate backups (paths)? Thanks.

I use drag and drop to move files from one device to another. See example image below.

To back up your laptop, what app do you use for backing up?

I will be using Acronis True Image for Western Digital.

Copying D:\WD Backup.swstor to E:\ will move the data but WD Backup may not recognize it as a valid backup set, because the WD software tracks backups using the drive’s volume ID and configuration files, not just the folder contents. If you want the new drive to behave like the old one, connect both drives and use WD Backup’s Restore feature first, then point the software to the new drive and create a fresh backup plan. WD Backup often expects the same drive label it originally used, so renaming the new drive to match the old one can help avoid path issues. After that you can run backups normally without keeping separate paths.
