Changing Movie Art Thumnail

I used to scrape the info with the internal wdtv scraper, then just put a thumbnail with the same picture as the movie file

Now something in firmware must have changed cause now it’s just a metathumb that must have the image within it somehow, how do i get a third party thumbnail (thumbgen) to show up on the box, do i have to imbed it int he metathumb info somehow

either delete the metathumb file to replace it if you have created one with thumbgen then it will show up after you deleted metathumb and did a reboot turn off unit and let it recompile. or change the file extension to view it

as far as i understand it metathumb is a jpg just with metathumb extension instead, u can use thumbgen to just generate a thumb just remember to set output to metathumb or just find a picture yourself and rename it to metathumb(this can only be done with jpegs not pngs), to see the metathumb in windows just right click and choose open with and choose picture viewer

His question was about getting a 3rd party thumb to show up I use a Theme that has movie boxes so I use the WD scraper for the XML only then I go in and delete the metathumb that was created. I then use thumbgen for the cover box thumbnail which shows and has the jpg extension. Now if I do not delete that WD created metathumb it overides the thumbgen created thumbnail. Then I have to power down the unit and let it recompile for that metathumb to be completely gone

Oh I gotcha, ya a changed the “metathumb” to “.jpg” and i can see it now

the latest version of TG allows you to generate images in metathumb [change extension in TG options] as well so you can just have TG overwrite your internal scraped metathumb. eliminating an etra step for yourself.

The latest TG has also been updated with the latest firmware xml information [change the xml… 2 hub versions now, old and new FW] as they changed the format in the latest firmwares.

I believe the only thing fully using TG does not allow for is the “view backdrops” option [which I dont use so doesnt bother me any.] If this is a feature you do not use I would suggest using TG for everything, this would eliminate multiple steps and time for yourself and no reboots needed.

Actually, the xml format is the same for movies, only TV shows is a different xml format. Use the “old” for movies and the “new FW” for TV shows.

I use the new XML for both movie and TV, works fine. but if the old one still works for movie as well, one less thing to change for some… I already changed so no need to change back.

It may work, but it is not how the SMP/HUB uses the xml. If you generate the xml using the “Get Content” function you’ll see that movie xml’s are still the “old” way and only TV shows are generated the new way.

I’m not sure how much different that is then the way it actually display the actors using the old way, which is:

Actor: Mark Wahlberg / Kate Beckinsale / Ben Foster/Giovanni Ribis/ Lukas Haas / J.K. Simmons / William Lucking/Diego Luna / Caleb Landry Jones / Robert Wahlberg

Which the only difference is that there’s a space between the actors name and the “/”. Unless your’s is displaying differently than this:
