Can't Eject External HDD

Hi,

I have a 500GB My Passport, using it on a Windows 7 system. Whenever I try to eject it using the “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” function, even though there are no applications running, no folders open, every file is closed in My Passport, and there’s nothing on my clipboard, I get this message: “This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the device, and then try again.”  I don’t get this with any other external HDD I use or any USB flash drive I try to eject. Any clue as to how I can safely eject the drive without having to shut down Windows?  There’s got to be a way.  Thanks.
