Can't access MyBookLive UI from outside LAN

Hi All,

I’m running the latest firmware (just upgraded to MyBookLive 02.43.10-048 : Core F/W). I went to Settings, clicked on the Remote Access tab, put a checkmark to Enable Remote Acess, and selected Manual from the Connection Options drop-down list. I specified WD 2go Port 1 and WD 2go Port 2 ports (one for http and the other for https access - both of which I made sure to properly forward on my router). My connection Status says Connected (Port forwarding connection established.)

And yet, when I point to http[s]://my.public.ip:externalPort/ from outside my local network (like on my cell phone through my carrier’s LTE connection), I get the following error message: “Forbidden. You don’t have permission to access /UI on this server”. I even tried using my ddns hostname instead of the actual ip, and reverse proxy via nginx instead of the port number, but I keep on getting the same message

Could you guys please help me figure out what I’m doing wrong?

Simple.  You’re trying to do something which isn’t supported.   “Remote Access” is not meant to give you UI access remotely.  It’s there for file access only using the provided applications such as WD Photos, WD My Cloud (desktop or mobile), etc.

Correct, remote access is for WD’s apps only.

If you wnat remote access to hte UI, then you need to set up a VPN server on the MBL and connect remotely via VPN.
