hi guys,
i’m a little confused and hope someone can explain. I’m want to share media which i have backed up with the rest of the house members. I’m thinking of purchasing a NAS and then play media using a player like wdtv live. But can the wdtv live do this instead? i.e connect a hdd to the wdtv live and then enable share via network? Or am i better off sticking to a dedicated NAS solution?
Yes, it can do that, but the functionality and performance is very limitted compared to a purpose-built NAS.
thank you. I simply want a storage solution where i can transfer files to from my pc and then be able to share them. The only thing is that i would like a nas to be able to lock/password protect folders, so adult-rated movies should not be seen by kids.
The Live / Live + does *NOT* have that capability to password-restrict certain folders.
so in that case, i’d be better off getting a NAS and then locking/hiding folders on that, so that wdtv live cannot access these?
