Can I move RAID 5 drives to a new enclosure and still have access to data?

I am considering buying an EX4100 or a PR4100 and setting up as a RAID 5 server. I understand that if a single drive fails I can replace it and it will rebuild using the parity from the other drives. But what if the enclosure itself fails? Can I move the same 4 drives to a new enclosure, or even from an EX4100 to a PR4100, and have the NAS recognize the RAID set without losing data?

Hi @scottg1965,

Please refer to the article of Moving Hard Drives From a My Cloud Enclosure to Another My Cloud Enclosure (RAID Roaming):

Scott, i would be verey cautious with that. I think that the new unit might insist on first reformatting the drives so you might lose your data. I had a reported failure and was facing the same problem. Fortunately I wa able to find a work-around for the reported ‘Power Supply Failure’, and saved everything - by taking the EX4100 OFF my surge protector. Whoda thunk?
