Hello I have a PR4100 NAS and I was wondering what the best format for the drives are so that an extra drive can be added easily without loosing any data? I have tried googling but cant seem to get a clear answer. The NAS will be mainly used for a media server and to back up 2 Mac’s if that makes a difference? Thanks.
I have offline copies (HDD in a drawer) of all my media, so I’ve chosen to put all 4 drives in RAID-0. No real reason to sacrifice 25% of my drive space for redundancy when I have backups. Plus if one of my WD Gold drives wear out, I’m not so sure I’d want to stress out the survivors in order to rebuild the array anyways.
