Backing Up Drive

I am a new user and have successfully set up and accomplished several backups. Question is should the job be set up for “copy” or “incremental” after a successful initial copy? .

What are you backing up? The My Cloud to another device? Or your computer to the My Cloud? What program/app are you using to perform the backup?

What backup method (copy, incremental, differential) depends on what you seek to accomplish with the backup. Often if you select one method you cannot change to another method without creating a full new backup set (either over the top of the existing files or to a new location).

For example Acronis is a maker of backup software. The following link is their explanation of the differences between the various backup options with their software.

Check the embedded help of the backup program you are using to see if it explains the differences of the backup options for that particular software/app/program.

Backing up my computer to WD EX2. Using the software on the WD MY cloud EX2.

“Copy” seems to work. Just don’t want to fill the backup with unnecessary stuff. Does “copy” fully copy every time or just changes? “Incremental” suggests a possible different approach. Did not see this addressed in Manual.

Per WikiPedia:

Incremental backup
An incremental backup is one in which successive copies of the data contain only that portion that has changed since the preceding backup copy was made. When a full recovery is needed, the restoration process would need the last full backup plus all the incremental backups until the point of restoration. Incremental backups are often desirable as they reduce storage space usage, and are quicker to perform than differential backups.

Because you are using an EX2 you should see the dedicated subforum for the EX2 series. This subforum is generally for the single bay My Cloud units. The EX2 series has a different backup option/features than the single bay My Cloud model does.
