Avoiding Hardware Encyptions

Hi. I’ve read on the internet (so therefore is probably not true!!) that WD Drives have hardware encryption on them which is within the case but not on the drive itself - which means in the unlikely event that the hardware fails, it would be impossible to take the drive out and read it from another enclosure (I am aware about warrenty invalidation - this is a worst case scenareo - where the data is more important than invalidating any warranty).
Is this true? If so - is there any way round it (ie is it possible to NOT encrypt the data automatically).

many thanks.

it’s true.

read my post here where i tested it.

a way around it ? … don’t buy a “My Book”, buy a “Elements” which has no hardware encryption.

Hi Joey. Thanks for this - you are a star! I shall go down the Elements route.
