Any info on malfunctioning drive?

Hi all, my Passport has gone funny and, ya know, same old story - all me files and digital life are on there, so…

I think it maybe got condensation in it (I was watching a movie in the bath)

It shows up as the G drive - used to have all the WD Passport information

It won’t do anything else (except maybe allow me to format it)

Shows up in ‘device manager’ - says ‘working properly’, has details (ie, ‘WD 3200BMV External USB Device’), under ‘volumes’ tab has no details, just dashes.

It lights up and flashes but clicking on it don’t do nothin’ whatsoever.

Help!

If you took it in for a hot steamy bath it may be corrupt or physically damaged. They are not waterproof.

So I ran a program called HDD Regulator and it found (and, apparently, repaired) about 18 bad sectors and now things are different:

  1. Instead of the light constantly flickering it stays on and steady

  2. Instead of showing up as drive G with no WD icon it shows up as drive E with no WD icon

  3. If I click on it it says it needs to be formatted to use. If I click cancel there it says it’s not accessible and does not contain a recognised file system.

Any ideas?

Thanks for posting glad you got it fixed. How about a link for HDD Regulator I can’t seem to find it.

I got it off btjunkie. Wouldn’t exactly say it was fixed but it seems to have done something. And just downloaded a program called EASEUS Data Recovery that seems to be able to see and recover my files - gonna get stuck into that now.

Fingers crossed!
