Advice required - Can I re-use hard drive from mybook live on ex2?

Hi Folks,

Thanks in advance for any tips / advice.
I have an existing mybook live from a couple years back that is no longer working as a network drive. Not sure if it’s a windows issue but my media player won’t even recognize it anymore - so I think it’s the NAS that’s pooched.

So, I was thinking of buying a diskless my cloud ex2.

Can I reuse the hard drive from my old mybook live?
If so, I assume I have to reformat it and lose the data - not a big deal, this was a back up.

Also - do I need to have two hard drives that are teh same, or can i also pillage from another old external hard drive lying around?

I am missing the benefits of a network drive. my other option would be to just go back to a simple external drive - but would prefer a network option.
(I’m just a simple consumer/family user, a fair volume of digital photos and videos). Don’t really need the dual set up, but since I have a couple old hard drives lying around I figured why not use them in a diskless system

Thanks in advance!

You can repurpose the old drives in the new enclosure, they just need to be reformatted inside the enclosure. It has the feature to use JBOD so you can mix up different drives at the same time. You can use EX2 with a single drive if you want as well.
