1TB Western Digital My Book Essential (Enclosure Problem)

I’ve been using this external HD for 6 yrs now, it was running fine last week, I never get errors and such and suddenly when I plugged it in earlier in my PC, there was no power at all. There was no led light, and the HD itself isn’t running, So I thought maybe it’s just the power adapter, and so I tried the adapter in another device, and it worked fine. I had this spare adapter that’s identical to my WD EHD adapter and tried it on my WD EHD but still has no power. Does anyone know what could be the problem of my EHD? I am assuming it might be the “thing” inside where I plug the power and USB. If so, what are the things I could do to open my HD and get my files.

Note: My drive is obviously too old, I don’t think warranty will convered on this. And my files inside the drive is too important me please help!

Hello,

If the drive is out of warranty, you could try connecting the drive internally on a desktop computer. It’s posible that the enclosure is the issue.

If you connect the drive internally and stills the same, my recommendation is to contact a data recovery company to see if they can get your files out of the drive.

Thanks for your reply, I try what you suggested and will come back and do everything you said.

Don’t forget if this is a drive that came with Smartware the data will be encrypted when you connect as an internal or in third party case.

Oh goodness… I hope it works when I installed in PC, I still have not tried it, I do not have time to an extra SATA cable for the PC.

Nevermind, I just tried it and it didn’t work, windows says it installed it successfully but the drive in the explorer didn’t appear, now I don’t know what I’m going to do to retrieve my important files…
