1TB My Passport Drive isn't recognized by Samsung DVD Player

I have an older WD drive which the dvd player will recognize and I can play videos correctly. However, the newer My Passport drive isn’t recognized when I plug it into the player’s USB port. The My Passport works well on my PC. My PC recognizes it and I can play the videos using VLC media player. I called Samsung and they said if other external drives work it must be a compatibility issue with the new one.

Any ideas?

Does your Samsung DVD player support drive greater 1TB size? Or is the drive has the right format that Samsung DVD Player can see, etc…NTFS, exFAT, FAT32, HFS+…
Check your DVD player manual

check the partition table format … a lot of devices only support MBR (Master Boot Record) which is limited to a max size of 2TB.

and not GPT (GUID Partition Table) which most (all?) WD Hard Drives are now partitioned and support sizes up to and over 2TB.

if your older hard drive works and the newer one does not, then this is most likely the reason.
