Wont play alot of my AVI. files and some MKV file?!

I just bought the WDTV Play to replace my first gen media player.

Im finding it wont play alot of my normal AAVi. files and some MKV. files. THey played perfectly on my old wd player, does any one else have this problem?

On your AVI file:  The codec is DIV3, which is a DivX variant that is not supported.

On your MKV file:  The profile used is AVC High@L5.1.   That’s not a supported profile.   Only 4.1 and below are supported for AVC video.

thanks so much for explaining… Do you know if converting will help, i was told it messes with the quailty? Any suggestioms on software to do it? Thanks

you can use all software… for convert or reconvert for example you can use:

Xvid4PSP… it’s freeware.
