Wd tv live gen3 support 3d movies?

Hi.

I want to know if that media player support 3d movies and if it does what type of 3d movies does it support?

Does it support 3d frame packing movies? If not is there any way to make it play these files?

What kind of 3d movie files exactly support?

What kind of files DOESN’T support this media player?

Half-SBS (Half Side-by-Side)  Maximum Resolution of 1920x1080 is supported √

(Standard File Types: MKV, MP4, M4V, AVI, WMV, MPG, TS etc)

Half OU (Half Over-Under)  Maximum Resolution of 1920x1080 is supported √

(Standard File Types: MKV, MP4, M4V, AVI, WMV, MPG, TS etc)

Full Frame Packed 3D  Resolution 3840x1080 is Not Supported X

(WDTV does not support it, most probably due to extra processing power required of the CPU / GPU

and the design specs of the Sigma Chipset)

Depending on the Brand and Age of your 3D TV … older TV’s you have to manually switch to the 3D Mode your require.

Newer TV’s (My Panasonic) Automatically detect a 3D Signal (Done via image analysis and switches to the correct 3D mode)  my TV does this 99% of the time, but in some cases i have to manually set the 3D mode.

Is there any chance that 3d frame packing supported with any firmware update?

And if it doesn’t why that?

So you telling me that this media player NEVER support 3d frame packing files even it was at ts or m2ts or anything else file correct?

It won’t happen … this is not Firmware thing … it’s a Design Thing (Chipset/Processor/GPU)

These are the Specifications for the WDTV Live Streaming

  • MPEG4.2 ASP@L5 up to 1280x720p30 resolution and no support for global motion compensation.
  • WMV9/VC-1 MP@HL up to 1280x720p60 or 1920x1080p24 resolution. VC-1 AP@L3 up to 1920x1080i30, 1920x1080p24 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • H.264 BP@L3 up to 720x480p30 or 720x576p25 resolution.
  • H.264 MP@L4.1 and HP@4.1 up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30, or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • An audio receiver is required for multi-channel surround sound digital output.

  • Single layer TIFF files only.
  • Uncompressed BMP only.

3D Frame Packing is not supported (WDTV only do 1 Frame/Video) 

(Frame Packing refers to the combination of two frames, one for the left eye and the other for the right eye, into a single “packed” frame that consists of these two individual sub-frames.)

 

3D Packed Frames are MVC which MKV doesent Support (Thus WDTV won’t support MVC)

Combining the 2 Full Frames at full Resolution 3840x1080 (when you rip the bluray) is out of spec.

You’ll have to settle for Half-SBS or Half OU … that’s the only way

Nope.

But looking around the net … found this player, that apparently can.

(More than Double the Price (US $312.88) of the WDTV SMP … but, hey, you pay for what you get or want)   :wink:

And why i choose that TOO EXPENSIVE media player and not the mede8er med600x3d that supports anything except divx files and it was a lot of cheaper than the himedia hd900b you suggest me.

Probably because it’s not his job to search extensively for your new player?

i NEVER tallied that it is but BY ITSELF it suggest me a media player WITHOUT TALKING TO HIM TO DO IT SO…

First of all: kudos for coming up with some helpful stuff! The Himedia 900B seems like a good solution. Could u please confirm the following for me, before i decide to actually buy it: in theory it should be possible to play a Blu-ray 3D.iso from my Synology DS 214+? Or do i need to insert an internal/external into the device itself?

Sorry for being such a noob. Would like to hear from ya, thanks!

I don’t own a Himedia 900B … i merely posted it as an example of a Media Player that can handle 3D Frame Packing.

So i can’t answer that question. 

I would however, recommend joining a forum were people who own a Himedia 900B devices might be able to give you an accurate answer to your question.
