WD Security -- details

hi folks,
could you shed some details on the type of WD Security that is implemented within the latest version of the software?
Is this just software password, hardware encryption, what type of encryption, strength, how does it compare with Bitlocker?

thank you,
Cos

Hi oracos,

WD Security allows password protection and hardware encryption to be set to protect the drive from unauthorized use or access.

It have 256 bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)

great, thanks a bunch.
the reason I was asking is because I have a similar Seagate drive that I had encrypted with Bitlocker however, the write speed to it, it seems it went down from approx 150mb/sec without encryption to about 50mb/sec after bitlocker… whereas with WD, it appears that the write speed degradation seems to be minimal.

thanks,
Cosmin
