Wd my passport ultra won't boot up

i just purchased a wd my passport ultra and installed it on my laptop computer which is running on windows xp version 2002 service pack 3.

my computer says it is installed and is functioning properly but there is no icon on the desktop and it doesn’t boot up automatically when I plug it in.

How do I open the device so I can back up my files?

most probably the My Passport Ultra is formatted GPT Partition Style which is not compatible with Windows XP 32-Bit editions (which only supports MBR)
