WD My Passport says it needs to be formatted when I plug in

My external drive My Passport says I have to format the drive to use when I plug it in. Is there a diagnostics tool to fix it, or have I lost all my data?

How are you been saving your data? WD Smartware or WD Backup If either of these your data will still be on your PC. Use Restore or Retrieve. Also check the Help tabs.

If some other software that deletes PC data, you need to try download WD Utilities and WD Security to check out the drive. If you re-format the drive you will loose any data on the drive.
