WD Elements - Stop Sleeping

I have an older 5+ year old 2TB WD Elements external USB drive that has worked perfectly since day one. :smileyvery-happy:

I just purchased a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR3700 and connected the WD Drive to the ReadyShare USB Port and configured it…worked perfectly!

Here’s the problem:

The WD Drive is going into sleep mode and losing the connection to the Netgear Router, I have to unplug/plug the USB cable and then it wakes up after 20 or so seconds and all is well.

I downloaded the WD Drive Manager and installed in in hopes of configuring the drive but I can’t get the program to start? Is it because the:

  1. Drive is too old?
  2. The drive is connected to the Netgear Router?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If I have to purchase a newer external drive that’s fine, I have other uses for my current drive. I just want to make sure the new one does not sleep.

Thanks,

Mitch

Hello,

The WD Elements drive has not been designed to work connected to a router. This drive has a USB interface so you can plug it directly to your computer. We have a drive which has been designed for network use. It is called: My Book Live

Hello,

Have you test the drive on a computer?

Also make sure that the drive is connected directly to the wall outlet and try a different USB cable.
