WD Elements Cable connection

I’ve just bought my first external disk, an 8tb Elements. According to the spec sheet, the interface is “USB 3.2 Gen 1”.

On my PC I have both “USB 3.2 Gen 1” & “USB 3.2 Gen 2”.

My motherboard manual states “We strongly recommend that ypu connect your devices to ports with matching data transfer rates.”

Do users think that this will make a difference?

And secondly, do I need to have a High Speed cable to ensure I get the max possible transfer rate.?

Thanks.

You can use either one. Bear in mind that speeds will be constrained to the slowest component. You can even plug it into a USB 2.0 port but you’ll only get USB 2.0 speeds.

As far as the cables themselves, Yes make sure they are rated for the drive (at least Gen 1) and perhaps get one rated for Gen 2 (so you have it for other devices or future upgrades, fast changing phones, etc.).
