I have bought a new WD Elements 1TB harddisk but it could not be recognized by my Windows XP desktop. I don’t know how to fix it? by reformat the WD harddisk? How to do it? I can’t find any instruction guide provided in WD website?
Hi,
Does the drive works on a different computer?
See if this helps
Note. Formatting the drive will erase all the data on the unit.
All the new WD HDD’s are GPT partitioned … even ones less than 2TB
Windows XP (32 Bit) doesn’t support GPT partition style
you’ll need to re-partition/re-format to MBR
I have tried to convert new WD Elements from GPT to MBR by AOMEI but still not work with Windows XP.
You need to write zeros to your drive and initialize it (on your Win XP PC) then create a new partition and then you will be able to use it on Win XP
But, Win XP did not recognise the new WD Elements HDD. How can I write zeros to my drive? Where can I find the instruction guide to follow?
You can use WD Drive Utilities (If it’s compatible with your drive) on WinDLG
