WD DX4000 Sentinel Recovery Disc

If I could just increase my poker skills, I wouldn’t have to deal with
this

yes the link above has the regedits to fix the power temp fans
Why use team viewer? You had to remote to the desktop to install it, why not just remote to the desktop when you need it?

Providing my clients with fast 24 hour support on a budget, I started with
Radmin which is a per pc software that required router modifications to
use, but gave me unattended access. Most of my associates were using
teamviewer, so I bit the bullet and paid the larger fee, but unlimited connections
combined with no router mods. My teamviewer installs are usually done when I
visit my clients giving me unattended access. Those client that are out of
reach (like NC  I have their local tech install it or I have the client
run the client when needed.

I may still be asleep, but I do not see a reference to the regedit ;-(

[Deleted]

let me paste it for you again

I noticed, unlike my working units that have DX4000 there’s a DS6100 like
in the post.

1-Right now the missing health items are there!!
2-The registry entries for
devicetype/model/modelnumber/modelurl/productmodelnumber indicate the DS6100 or the OEM
3-The do not match my good 12TB 1.7.6.21 unit registry entries

I have 4 2TB compatible drives on the way. I will try the direct connect to
see it the factory reset will work.

But, I probably would still like to get your iso and a windows backup of
the unit you just did.

So, looking at the registry on the DX4000 I notice the entries indicate DS6100. Correcting and rebooting get the old entries back. Is there an ini or config file that are read during startup to populate the registry each time?

not sure yet. I think it may be the WD identity or registration service

So, I correct the registry settings and recheck the monitor, still missing
status. Now usually if I reboot, the settings will revert back to the DS6100
. So, I do a backup and then restore on another unit. All is well. The
status is there, the registry is correct and a shutdown and reboot doesn’t
affect the status or settings.

I will be waiting for the new drives to try the direct connect to see if
the factory reset works, but I really like the speed of doing a restore.

Next test will be to see if adding a 3rd drive will invoke the auto change
to raid 5 as it says it should.

On some of my efforts I see the Intel Rapid Storage on the 1.7.3.13
dashboard. I do not see it on the 1.7.6.21. Is there a way to add it.

you can install the intel rst drivers but it used to make the fans run on high

I doubt the drive you are getting are actually on the list but with the drive enabler patch they should work

hey, what you should do is a recovery and then back it up before you run the server wizard and then you can change the name when you do a restore

Do a recovery, then remote to the server desktop
user administrator
pass Admin
just cancel the wizard (Alt F4) and do your backup

Faster = noisier but cooler box

The drives are WD2002FYPS-02W3B0’s which are on the list

So, I baclup my now good DX4000 with the health status working and the
registry entries still there after several reboot.

Then retore it to the unit I backed up to restore on the now good unit. the
health status is ok, but the registry is back to DS6100

Guess I dunno. Explain to me how many Recovery options do you have and let me pick.

We will see. There are none. My bet is counterfeit. But I do hope the best for you

OK, here’s my status.

-Still can’t do factory reset
-3 boxes have been recovered by restoring a clean basic backup and have the correct registry and Health status
-1 box has been recovered by restoring a clean basic backup and has the correct health Status, but the registry indicates DS6100

I was referring your following post;

As far as recovery options I have, the only successful option is restoring
a backup of a client’s 2x2TB box that I deleted the client’s data, logins
and backup that were setup. Making it basically a raw box. I have recovered
3 boxes that I got on ebay that either had the drives erased or had a
single working drive that would not migrated back to raid 1. Restoring thee
backup I created resolved those issues.

As soon as the new drives arrive I will try the factory reset again just to
see if I can get it to work for those boxes that have raid 5 in the
future. But as I mentioned, the backup restore works and is fasted. It I get a
raid 5 going I will probably make a backup of that one for future use.

Well, I hope you are wrong. I have purchased other WD Sentinel compatible
enterprise drives from ebay. The good news is that they have ebay’s money
back guaranty and there are a number of that model still available on ebay
and elsewhere
