Ubuntu + Android device

My laptop runs Ubuntu, so first dissapointment is that software is only for Windows and Mac.

Was there any mention of Ubuntu support on the packaging…?

You don’t need to install any software to configure the MyCloud; use the web-based ‘Dashboard’ interface.

If you want to use remote access, it can be done via a web interface, using wd2go.com

Second try was to try to connect to the device connecting it via USB, but I have read that it doesn’t work that way.

It’s a Network Attached Storage unit, intended to be connected to an Ethernet network, I.e. your router. It’s not a USB hard drive.

If you want relatively fast data transfer, don’t use WiFi; use a hard-wired gigabit Ethernet connection.

[edit: my apologies for this post; I was in a particularly grumpy mood last night, and saw only a series of somewhat unfounded criticisms. Hopefully, the links should help you use and understand your MyCloud]
