Hi I’ve just bought a recertified 3TB My Book and the transfer rates seems incredibly slow. Just tried to back up my C:\Users Folder to the drive (about 50Gb) and its taking an age to even get to 1% complete. Windows is suggesting over 5 hours to complete. I’ve never had an external drive before so I’m unsure if this is normal. I’ve got it plugged in with the supplied USB 3 cable to a USB 3 port on the laptop.

I’ve also tried it with another laptop and performance is equally slow.

How long should I expect it to transfer 50Gb?

Is this drive faulty?

Hi,

If you are using WD software for the backup, the initial backup will be quite slow. Once the drive storage is setup, it should run much faster. I had to let mine run overnight.

Hi Cliff thanks for the quick reply.

I started off using the WD backup utility but after a couple of hours I was on about 5% complete and cancelled it as I assumed I’d done something wrong.

In my first message I was referring to a straight forward copy and paste.

Just let the WD Backup run. I 'm not familiar enough with copy and paste activity to help.
