Transfer data from pc to mac

I just got a 1tb passport and planned to use it to transfer the data from my pc to my new mac…I go the passport that is usable with both pc and mac…I was thinking that I just plug it in to my pc and load files and then plug it into my mac and unload them, but I am seeing alot of info about needing to reformat it to fat32 beforehand so it WILL work with both…then I saw another place where it said you can’t reformat a 1tb to fat32 because it won’t allow it due to size.

Can anyone tell me what I actually need to do then???

thanks

Windows will only allow you to make 32GB partitions, but there are some 3rd party apps that allow to use FAT32 to format your hard drive and access the full capacity, but if you have Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or newer, you can format your hard drive on exFat and access the full 1TB without the 4GB limitation per file that FAT32 has, the only limitation is that it wont work on older version of Mac OS. Check the link below for the app to format on FAT32.
