Too sad on the Quality of Netflix

Hello, i just like to coment that i expect much more speed and quality using the NetFlix in my new, WDTV HD Media Plus, is funny that i have better quality if i conect my WII even better if i conect my Laptop directly to the TV i have much quality.

I also lost Close Caption from movies that has soported when i view in my laptop using a simple Google Crome Browser.

If i view Youtube Videos or MEdiafly i have very nice quality (amaizing) using the same WDTV, but NetFlix is bad,

I have a Sony Bravia HD TV (2 years old)

I Just buy the WDTV Plus, so is latest Firmware

I Have try with Component and Composite configurations (today i try HDMI )

My Bandwit is 1 MB and 2 MB (try in too places) but Youtube and MediaFly quality was great using this Bandwith

I hope NetFlix or WD make some upgrades to netflix software.

Thanks-

P.S. just ordering Rocku i will compare quality.

NetFlix is HD capable, and I have no problems getting HD quality.   And since the Wii and YouTube are NOT HD, it’s surprising to hear that you say it’s better.

Hey jmoises, welcome to the forums!

The 2 locations you mention with bandwidth of 1MB and 2MB, do you mean 1Mbit and 2Mbit?

My old internet connection was 1.5Mbit, which was not sufficient for Netflix HD (it wouldn’t even try to play HD content).

My current 8Mbit connection works great for HD and I’ve seen claims that above 5Mbit is sufficient.

Also be aware that Netflix will dynamically compress the quality further to get a stable stream on your connection.  At 1Mbit, I imagine the quality will be noticeably degraded.

My Live Plus is connected via HDMI, haven’t tried component.  Quality has never been an issue.

If you get a Roku to test, make sure the store has a good return policy.  I’d be surprised if the quality is any different but please let us know how you get on.  :)

Oh, I didn’t notice that it’s component.

NetFlix employs Macrovision protection on the analog outputs, and I think they also down-scale to 480p, so the quality WILL be reduced on component output.

Dont take me wrong, i use in the same TV, Wii and WDTV HD PLUS, with NetFlix, with the same internet Banwitht, i dont have the bandwith for HD movies (5 Mbits) i have in my home 1 Mbit, and my oficce 2Mbits i test it in the 2 locatios, and the quality was better on the Wii, and browse for movies etc more faster too.

Really i love the WD, i buy it after many reseach. but i have it for other stuff know not for Netflix, too bad. i was expected more, i think is not prepare for low bandwit.

i have better quality and captions, if i connect my laptop to my TV using the browser and Full Screen, than WII

Hi  PixelPower and thanks,

Yes i try with every cable, also with HDMI, i try whit every resolution available, even the smaller, and still have some pixels on my scree on darks movies.

I am pretty sure that if i have higher Bandwith there is no problem, but my concert is that my Laptop and Wii use the same Bandwith.

o did i mention that YUOTUBE Videos, MEdiafly Videos, and USB Vides HD are GREAT??? much better than NetFlix?

The only thing I can think of is that the other devices are buffering more of the stream and managing to maintain better quality.

Certainly YouTube and MediaFly will buffer up plenty of the video before playing.  It could be a limitation of the Netflix software on the Live Plus.

Yes i think that too, ask my self why WDTV Plus dont make more buffer like Wii?

Thanks for the reply!
