I have a DX4000 and I’m trying to recover my server from an earlier backup.
I downloaded the latest ISO file and created the bootable USB key (chose the 3rd option). I restarted the server and got the “Recovery Started” on the LCD panel (blue power light is blinking… not sure what that means).
Now, I go back to my PC and click “Next”, tool tries to find the server on the network and… not found.
I can see the server’s IP on my gateway, PC and server are connected to the same router.
I meant that when I log on my gateway configuration web page I can see the server listed as an active device and it has an IP address from the DHCP pool.
No other firewall than the win 7 one. I deactivated it but same result.
Good stuff. Ok, just to be sure. Shut down the wd box, clear release the dhcp, make sure it is gone, restart with the thumb and see if it gets an ip. Just want to be sure we are not looking at a stale record. May as well power cycle any/all routers and switches involved also
Shutdown the sentinel, bounced the gateway, and switched the network port on the sentinel to be sure I see a new MAC address listed on active devices. Restarted the server holding the reset button until I see “Recovery Started” on the lcd panel.
Same issue: I can see the new device as active on the gateway, but the recovery tool on my PC still cannot find the server.
The blue power light keeps blinking even after the server is done restarting… is that normal?
Let me give you more details about my install, maybe it will trigger something: I have a U-Verse gateway, the server is plugged to a switch which is plugged to one of the ports of the gateway. On that switch, I have a PS3 (turned off for now) and an airport wireless router (on). DHCP is controlled by the main U-Verse gateway. The PC I use to run the recovery tool is wired to one of the ports of the gateway. All other PCs, phones, etc. are wireless on the airport. I don’t think there is anything exceptional that would prevent finding the server, let me know what you think.
Be a few hours before I can boot in recovery mode. If it says recovery started, it should be set. I will have to look and see if the power light is flashing.
I would think it would work the way you have it wired, but i reall do not know anything about the uverse gateway. for giggles, plug the pc into the switch with the server. It is possible the uv erse does not handle/allow odd ball ports
If that still doesd not work, just shut the pc and the wd box down and plug one end of a cat 5 cable into each and try again
As well there is a RECOVERY.LOG file in the WD folder of the thumb drive. Mioght look in it for any hidden gems of info
Thanks to you I was finally able to connect to the server. I had to directly connect the server and my PC with a network cable without going through the router. Worked like a charm.
I did a reset to factory settings and am currently reconfiguring the server…
