I got a new laptop with WIndows 8 Pro.  I have my Passport with all the back up information from my previous laptop (Windows 7), but when I connect my Passport to the new laptop, it shows it like if it were empty.  So the laptop asks me if I want to do the back up from the laptop itself to the Passport, I guess because the Passport shows as empty?  Maybe I did something wrong and the new laptop is reading in a wrong way the Passport?  Or there is some sort of incompatibility?  (I already upgraded the Passport to the latest version).

Please if someone could provide me with an advice?

I assume you used the Smartware for your backup. First try changing to show hidden files. Sometimes you do need to do a backup on the new PC to see the old backup check out this post http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Book-for-PC/data-restore/m-p/161586/highlight/true#M5703
