MyBook for Mac no longer recognised

I’ve used a WD MyBook for Mac very successfully for the past couple of years as my Time Machine backup. But it is now no longer recognised by my Mac (a late 2012 MacMini) and shows a white light. I have recently updated the OS to High Sierra and wondered whether this might be connected. Is it time to buy a new Time Machine drive…or is there anything I can do to salvage the My Drive? Thanks for any thoughts/advice.

If your MacBook has SSD as internal storage drive then it got formatted to APFS file system while upgrading to macOS High Sierra. And yes, Time Machine doesn’t backup APFS storage drives as of now. You have to copy your files manually from MacBook to this drive (creating a seperate folder) or to another external.
