MyBook Essential Removed from Router USB Port Before Eject

I have a MyBook Essential Model WD1600I032 that was attached to a Synology Router RT2600 at the router’s USB port. It’s a few yrs old, and hadn’t been used for a couple of yrs, but I recently plugged it in to my router at the router’s USB port. It was working fine and accessible from other PCs on my network, (most of which run Windows 7), until it was unplugged from the router without being ejected.

I’ve plugged it back into the same USB port of the router, but none of the previous files can be found. My research seems to indicate that index data may have been corrupted by the failure to eject properly from the router.

I’ve plugged it into a Windows 10 computer at a USB port, and it makes the usual Windows sound when a device is recognized but it’s not assigned a drive letter nor is it found in File Explorer. However, when it’s plugged-in to the USB port, and I open “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media”, I see the option to “Eject External HDD”, but there’s no drive letter assigned to it.

I’ve researched a few recovery programs, but I’ve not found any that specifically address the circumstance where index data on a USB drive has been corrupted by failure to eject properly from a router. Most seem to address accidental deletion of files or formatting in error.

Wondering if anyone knows a way to restore the disk, or otherwise recover/get access to the files that were on it before the failure to eject occurred.
