My Cloud 6 TB question

Hello,
I purchased a 6 TB My Cloud yesterday. I have gotten it set up to back up certain files on my computer. I really want this to back up my OneDrive and have files accessible across multiple devices Is this possible? I think I have confused myself. Any instruction would be great!
Thanks

I purchased several WD MyClouds to do the same—backup, and then expand my OneDrive data. I am far from an expert on this and I did run into problems. In summary, I was able to sync using WD Sync only one-way. If I changed a file on One Drive, it did propogate through the WD Sync to the MyCloud. If I changed a file on the WD MyCloud, it did NOT propagate back to OneDrive. I read some reasons why, but I did not find an easy/quick workaround, so I gave up.

In other news, I bought two MyClouds so I could back one up with the other—still haven’t figured out how to do that either.

Regards.

You sound like me! I have confused myself so bad! I know there is an answer to this. I just hope someone responds.

First, if you have not done so you should read through the My Cloud User Manual (http://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904). It will explain how to use the My cloud and it’s features/options.

Officially no it is not possible through the single bay/single drive My Cloud Dashboard to backup an online storage service like OneDrive to the My Cloud.

Unofficially it may be possible to manually copy the data from the OneDrive to the My Cloud either using Windows File Explorer or the OneDrive application. Or possibly even a third party software program. One will probably need to “map” the My Cloud to your PC for easier access.

You may also want to look at the unofficial app GoodSync that one can add by using SSH to modify their My Cloud firmware. Note modifying the firmware may void the My Cloud warranty.

Officially, you cannot backup one second gen single bay My Cloud to another second gen single bay My Cloud. See the following WD Support Document for more information.

Thank you for the reply.

I must do some more research to determine how to create backups. I have a 2TB at home, a 1TB at another location (cabin with slow internet), and a third 4Tb that I wanted to use as the backup for both—would be located at home with faster internet.

I’m not a network engineer, so any links to articles I should read would be apricated.

Thank you.

See the link to the GoodSync app above. Its possible that unofficial mod may be able to remote sync a v2.x single bay My Cloud to a remote v2.x single bay My Cloud.
