I have had a My Book Duo RAID 8TB drive for a year and all of a sudden I can’t access it. It shows up as a USB device and can be ejected, but does not show up in Explorer. 1 out of 50 times it shows up as a drive and I can see the folders, but then tells me there is an error and I can’t see any files. Once it allowed me to access the files and proceed with backing up, but that has stopped. I have tried different computers, different cables, etc., nothing works.
Probably 100 times, multiple computers, multiple cables. It seems 1 out of 50 times I can access teh data. It ALWAYS shows up as a drive I can eject, but not as a drive letter I can access.
I got it to work again last night and ran a full diagnostics on it (see below). Took about 16 hours, but it says it all passed.
I am at a loss. I have probably 10 other external drives, including some WD drives, and never once have I had a problem. I’d put money on it being something with the RAID or power supply/connection. Unfortunately, that’s not too comforting.
I’ll get another drive tomorrow and start transferring, if I can keep it working. Problem is I have massive, uncompressed 4k video files are on there. Not easy to transfer.
LED light is always on.
Any other thoughts? I should note that when I first bought it this happened and I quickly exchanged it, thinking it was an anomaly, but this leads me to believe it’s a faulty product overall.
